Infertility Overview

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive and become pregnant after 12 months of regular, unprotected sexual intercourses. Infertility is a common medical condition, affecting approximately 1 of 7 couples. Both men and women experience infertility. Twenty percent of infertility cases have unknown causes. Male factor infertility takes place in half of infertility cases. […]

Diet for Infertility

Nutrition is a form of treatment able to work the symptoms by addressing the underlying cause of the problem as well as to work on prevention. Both you and your partner should follow the dietary recommendations to increase your fertile ability. Healthy diet is very important for a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby. Some products can help to correct hormone imbalances but certain foods and drinks are able to lower fertility.

Alcohol
Alcohol can reduce fertility by half and influence harmfully both partners. The chances to conceive depend on the week portion of alcohol. Those who drink less than five glasses of wine per week have much higher chances to get pregnant compared with those who drank more.
Alcohol lowers sperm count, increases abnormal sperm and decrease sperm motility. Alcohol also prevents absorption of nutrients such as zinc.

Caffeine
It was proved that caffeine decreases fertility, especially it concerns coffee. Just one cup of coffee a day can reduce your chances of conceiving by half. The more coffee you drink, the more problems with sperm count and motility you have. Except coffee such products as colas, chocolate, black teas also contain caffeine. Exclude all caffeine-containing food and drinks for at least three months if you want to increase your chances to conceive.

Smoking
Smoking has destroying impact on fertility ability in women. It can even cause early menopause. Smoking men have problems with sperm count, its motivity, and increased number of abnormal sperm.

Xenoestrogens
Xenoestrogens are essentially environmental oestrogens. They can cause an imbalance in your hormonal system. The main sources of xenoestrogens are pesticides and the plastic industry. Buy organic produce to avoid xenoestrogens for the pre-conceptual period.

The Hormone-balancing Diet
1. Consume as much fruits and vegetables as possible.
2. Include in your diet complex carbohydrates like wholegrains (brown rice, oats, wholemeal bread).
3. Prefer organic foods where possible
4. Add phytoestrogens to your daily ration, such as beans (lentils, chickpeas) and Soya products.
5. Eat oily foods: fish, nuts, seeds and oils.
6. Restrict usage of saturated fat from dairy products, etc.
7. Make sure you daily ration contain enough fluids.
8. Increase your intake of fibre.
9. Avoid additives, preservatives and chemicals such as artificial sweeteners.
10. Reduce your intake of caffeine.
11. Reduce or avoid alcohol.
12. Decrease sugar on its own and hidden in foods.

How to Prevent Infertility

Although most types of infertility are not possible to prevent, the only way out for such people is to treat their infertility either by medicines, by surgeries or apply to some artificial insemination abilities. However, it is possible to prevent some potential kinds of infertility by avoiding drugs, tobacco, excessive alcohol consumption, and other factors which may interfere with fertility. In men high temperatures may also influence the production of sperm as well as its motility in a negative way, however, this infertility is considered to be temporary. In order to avoid it, a man simply should not take hot tubs and he should also stop visiting saunas.

In case if a man is not so far certain whether he would like to become a father in the future or not, he should not undergo the procedure of permanent sterilization (vasectomy). However, it is possible to undergo a specific surgery in order to reverse this condition; still there are risks that fertility may be affected in other ways.

Concerning woman’s fertility, she may increase her chances to conceive and carry her pregnancy to term, women should remember about the following:

Exercise moderately. Of no doubt, it is very important and extremely useful to do regular physical exercises, however, a woman may do them so intensely, that her periods will possibly become infrequent and they may even disappear, thus influencing her fertility in a negative way.

Avoid being overweight as well as being underweight. Every woman should keep in mind, that having either too much or too little of body mass may affect her hormone production, the potential result of which becomes infertility.

Avoid using alcohol, tobacco and street drugs. It is evident enough, that these substances may affect woman’s ability to conceive or / and carry pregnancy to term and deliver a healthy baby. However, it concerns both sexes: people, who wish to be able to have children, moreover, who want their kids to be healthy, are neither to take alcohol, nor to smoke tobacco. They should also avoid taking illegal drugs, like marijuana and cocaine.

Limit caffeine. A woman, who wants to get pregnant, should limit her caffeine intake up to no more than 250 milligrams of caffeine a day, which makes approximately two cups of coffee.

Limit medications. Remember, that taking of either prescription as well as nonprescription drugs can decrease woman’s chances to conceive or / and carry her pregnancy to term. If there is any doubt, a woman is to talk to her doctor about the possibility of taking any medication, she takes regularly.

Infertility Causes

Speaking about factors influencing on conception, it is foremost necessary to mark such ones, as age and frequency of sexual contacts.

Age
Maximal possibility of conception at a healthy woman is considered to be approximately to 23 – 25 years, then it goes down, and after 35 years it falls considerably. It is explained, that nearer to 40 years "quality" of ovulation goes down from the age-dependent changes in uterus system. In addition, a uterus and salpinxs can be already staggered by some diseases (for example, endometrioses, fibroma and other). However, there are the exceptions. So, the world record of child birth – 57 years. In general pregnancy can come until ovaries function, but with every spent year this probability become less and less.

At men organism, in sexual system in particular, we could see the differences. Men approximately to 90 years have abbility to procration. However, this is an ideal case, and in practice at most men after 45 years a capacity for procreation goes down gradually.

Now we will talk about that, how frequency of carnal knowledges influences on possibility of conception. Being too rare, they abandon not enough chances for conception, because, we will remind, a female ovule is ready to the impregnation only in some days of menstrual cycle. So, in opinion of gynaecologists, one sexual intercourse in a week enables approximately ten percent of the proccess of impregnation, which increases with the increase of number of sexual contact conception.

It is thus necessary to remember that too frequent carnal contacts also reduce the chance of impregnation of ovule. It happens, because the tired male organism begins to produce spermatozoids, viability and mobility of which much below by comparison to a norm. Thus, they are often unable to get to the salpinxs and to wait till an ovule takes place. In this connection gynaecologists and andrologists (masculine gynaecologists) recommend to search the "golden point", remembering that organisms are unique, and what is a norm for one, does not quite suit to other.

In previous years the absence of child and all the guilt was laid exceptionally on a woman. Modern medical researches show that in a row case man can be infertile too. Statistics name such numbers, as 40 % of female infertility against 35 % of male one. Also there are cases, when factors preventing pregnancies, are present as at a woman, so at a man. Therefore practice of the so-called home examinations is wide-spread in medical centers, when doctors inspect a patient, and its spouse. The inspection and conversation with a specialist passes separately for each.

Myths and Facts

Myth: The painful menstrual cycles are the reason of infertility.
Fact: The painful menstrual cycles in any way do not influence on fertility. Moreover, the regular painful menstrual cycles quite often testify that a cycle was ovulyatornym (ovulation happened in its loop). However, increasing pain during menstrual sycle and pain, arising up during sex, can specify a gynaecological problem (endometriosis, fibroma…).

Myth: The rare menstrual sycles are the reason of infertility
Fact: The lengthened, but regular menstrual cycle does not absolutely testify the problems with fertility. At some women a menstrual cycle can last 40 days. Naturally, as in an aggregate, less cycles turn out on a year means that amount of fertile periods at them happen much less. Women with the lengthened menstrual cycle need to heed after the offensive of ovulation more carefully (as it comes later by comparison with women, which menstrual cycle lasts 28-30 days).

Myth: Incompatibility of blood types of man and woman is the reason of infertility.
Fact: There is no connection between blood types and fertility.

Myth: A reason why I can not become pregnant is that after sexual intercourse sperm flows out me.
Fact: The effluence of seminal liquid after sexual intercourse is the normal phenomenon. If husband come inside a vagina, be sure that the necessary amount of sperm had enough time to interfuse with cervix mucus, and the amount of escaping sperm does not matter.

Myth: Fertility concernes the consistency and volume of sperm.
Fact: Sperm consists of seminal liquid, which is influenced by prostate. A volume and consistency of sperm is unconnected in any way with fertility, because fertility depends in a greater degree on the amount of spermatozoids. And it can be tested only at microscopic research.

Myth: Infertility could be inherited.
Fact: If your mother, grandmother or sister had problems with pregnancy, it does not quite mean that you will have the same problem.

Myth: To become pregnant, it is nessecary to have sex every day.
Fact: Sperm remains active in woman organism in cervical liquid during 48- 72 hours after sexual intercourse. Therefore it’s quite optionally to follow such frequent scadual of making love. Certainly, it’s important to have sexual intercourse in the period of ovulation, but if you will skip ones (even the day of ovulation) this is not critically.

Myth: At a woman organism an ovule ripens every month alternately: one month – in the left ovary, next month – in the right one.
Fact: Indeed, every month ovulation takes place only in one ovary, but quite optionally it takes place with such order: an ovule can ripen a few cycles with succession in one, for example left ovary.

Myth: If you want to become pregnant, simply relax; leave thinking about it and desirable pregnancy will come.
Fact: If pregnancy does not come in a year, probably there is some medical problem.   Stress can’t be the reason of infertility. Remember that all people suffering from infertility are in a state of stress – but not stres, that causes infertility, but the infertility causes stress.

Natural Infertility Treatment

Infertility can be primary and secondary. We name infertility primary, when a woman, in spite of regular sexual life without application of contraceptives, never became pregnant; secondary – a woman became sterile after one or a few pregnancies even finished by births.

The reasons of disease, mainly, are following: infantilism (excalation) general and genital, infertility of husband, inflammation of ovaries (former or real), strongly expressed bend of uterus, diseases of salpinxs, carried gonorrhoea, abortions carried before.
Treatment of infertility must go on the way of recovery from basic disease causing it. Sometimes infertility is caused by absence of vitamin E in food, which is named the vitamin of reproduction. Its could be found in a wheat, pea and kidney bean, buckwheat and groats, bow, wild rose, sea-buckhorn, and also in eggs and liver.

NATURAL MEDICINE RECOMMENDS:

1) At all cases of infertility put every evening compress on the under body of stomach. Steam
a compress as follows: take a piece of clothes from thin material, fill it tolerantly with the hot semi cooked barley, stick to 20 – 30 minutes. After the marble tampon is prepared (by a size of hazel-nut) it should be entered in vagina. A tampon consists of the parsley, saturated with fresh sunflower-seed oil and placed in the gauze bandaged by a woolen filament. It is possible to use the tampon, made from the head of the baked shallow seminal bow sprinkled by a mixture from a 1/4 tea-spoon of Castor sugar and powder from the grass of antennary, bandaged by a clean gauze and woolen filament.

2) An extract of goose-grass seed is made as follows: 1 tea-spoon of seed is made in powder, it is then pored with boiling water and boils 10 minutes on a small fire. An extract is cooled down. Ingest 1 table spoon 3-4 times a day during 12 days.

3) Pore 1 tablespoon of sendew by one glass of boiling water and keep in a warm place. Drink 2 tablespoons 3 times per day.

4) Periwinkle: 20 gm of dry plant is cooked in 250 gm of vodka during 5 minutes, cool down, keep in a cool dark place. Ingest 15 drops 3 times per day.

5) Gentian cruciform: at infertility it is recommended to use rhizomes and roots. Pore 2 tea-spoons of the dry ground roots in 3 glasses of boiling water, boil 10 minutes on a weak fire. Ingest 1/2 glass 3 times per day 30 minutes before  having eat.

6) Wintergreen: take 2 tea-spoons of the dry ground leaves, keep up to 2 hours in a dark place in the closed crockery in a glass of boiling water. Ingest 1/4 glass 3-4 times per day before meal. Renders a good effect at treatment of adnexitis.

Nutritional Supplements

There is a lot of scientific evidence that nutritional supplements have beneficial effects on both male and female fertility. These supplements can be very effective in restoration of the hormonal balance, as well as improving overall health. You need to add supplements to your daily ration because even the best diet doesnt contain all the necessary nutrients.

Folic Acid
Folic acid is known for its ability to prevent spinal bifida in newborns. Thats why it is essentially to get enough quantity of folic acid before and during pregnancy. Certainly folic acid is important in itself, but it is also part of the very important B-complex of vitamins. These vitamins are necessary to produce the genetic materials DNA and RNA. Together with vitamin B12, folic acid is responsible for keeping babys genetic codes intact. Dont forget about all of the B vitamins trying to become pregnant. Research has proven that B6 increases fertility and vitamin B12 improves low sperm counts.

Zinc
Zinc is a vital nutrient for increasing fertility for both men and women. As zinc is an essential component of genetic material, its deficiency can result in chromosome changes that causes reduced fertility and an increased risk of miscarriage. Zinc is necessary to use effectively the reproductive hormones, oestrogen and progesterone, to make the outer layer and tail of the sperm.

Selenium
Selenium is an antioxidant that protects the body from highly reactive chemical fragments called free radicals. Selenium prevents chromosome breakage, responsible for birth defects and miscarriages. High level of selenium increase sperm formation.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)
Essential fats influence all systems of the human body, including the reproductive system. They are important for healthy hormone functioning. This essential fatty acid supplementation produces prostaglandins that are contained in the semen. Insufficient levels of prostaglandins cause poor sperm quality, abnormal sperm, poor motility or low count.

Risk Factors of Infertility

Most of the risk factors for infertility either male of female are similar. The greatest ones are the following:

Age. In men, after they are 35 years old, the gradual decline in fertility begins as a rule. However, the woman’s fertility potential decreases somewhat earlier, after about the age of 32. Older women may suffer from infertility because of the higher rate of chromosomal abnormalities, occurring in the eggs with age. Health problems, which interfere with fertility, may also be in older women. Moreover, the risk of miscarriage also increases as the time goes by.

Tobacco smoking. Those men and women, who smoke tobacco, reduce their chances to conceive and carry their pregnancy to term successfully. Moreover, their chances to benefit from fertility treatment reduce as well. However, it should also be noted, that women, who smoke face the problem of miscarriage more often than those, who do not.

Alcohol use. There exists no safe level of alcohol usage during the period of conception as well as during pregnancy for women. However, reasonable use of alcohol does not seem to influence males’ fertility.

Obesity. One of the risks of infertility, especially concerning women infertility is leading a sedentary lifestyle and being overweight.

Being underweight . Except women, who are overweight, those women, who do not have sufficient body mass are also at risk of having problems with their ability to conceive. Here also belong women, who suffer from some eating disorders, like anorexia and bulimia; and those women, who follow a low – calorie or restrictive diet. Moreover, if a person is a strict vegetarian (no matter whether it is a man or a woman), he may also be infertile, though temporary, because of the lack of important vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin B – 12, zinc, iron, folic acid, etc. in his organism.

Too much exercise. According to some recently conducted investigations, if a woman makes physical exercises more than seven hours a week (which makes more than one hour a day), this may be associated with her ovulation problems. Moreover, strenuous exercises may also influence the success of an in vitro fertilization in a negative way. However, if a woman does not do any physical exercises at all, she may be suffering from obesity, and then she will also be at risk of infertility. The best decision is to do everything in a reasonable amount.

Caffeine intake. There is no single opinion in whether consuming too much caffeine may have something to do with the fertility problems. There are investigations, which prove that the increase of caffeine intake decreases fertility, however, others prove there is no adverse effect of caffeine on fertility issues. Therefore, if there are any negative influences of caffeine on fertility, this concerns more women, than men. Still, taking a lot of caffeine may cause miscarriage.

The Best Fertility Prescription

Most doctors would prescribe you something, which leaves a lot to be desired; those medicines, they tell you should take are too expensive as a rule, while the injections are extremely painful. Moreover, taking possible side effects of these medicines into consideration makes you think whether you should ever take them or it would better not to do it.

However, there is one kind of prescription, available in reproductive medicine, which includes practically no side effects, but only fun and pleasure; however, very few patients receive it. This medicine is sex. It does not cost anything; moreover, it can boost your changes to conceive considerably! There is no doubt that the more sex you have and the more frequent you do it, the higher is your chance to conceive.

But there exists one bitter truth: only having sex as frequent as you wish it will not help some infertile couples to conceive, carry to term and deliver such a long expecting baby. Couples, in which the woman suffers from tubal blockage or in which the man has zero sperm count belong to the abovementioned ones. However, there is another truth: extremely little amount of couples proves out to be absolutely sterile, because most of infertile couples suffer from multiple minor fertility problems, such as borderline low sperm count in a husband or male partner or irregular menstrual cycle in a wife or female partner. These couples always have a chance that there are at least a few sperm, which are functional in a man’s semen, or that even this woman does experience ovulation from time to time. Anyway, in case if they do not have sex frequently enough, their chances to get pregnant become lower, because the chances of the eggs meeting with the sperm get reduced to a great extend.

In accordance with some recently conducted investigations, the chances of getting pregnant are maximal 6 – 12 month after having any fertility surgery, such as endometriosis correcting surgery, Fallopian tubes repairing surgery (this kind of surgery is called tuboplasty), adhesions removing surgery (this kind of surgery is called adhesiolysis).

In addition, frequent sex increases pregnancy rates even after such treatments as Intrauterine Insemination and In Vitro Fertilization have been conducted. This is so, because bigger amount of sperm is being deposited and chemicals, called prostaglandins, which are contained in the semen increase the receptivity of the uterus to the embryo.

Still, if you will have sex as frequent as possible, it will not only influence your fertililty, but there are also a lot of pleasant side effects, included in it. It is not a secret anymore, that the very process of making love, as well as orgasm would boost blood circulation, release tension, relieve arthritic pains, makes skin colour improved and promotes psychological health for both partners. In addition, it has been proved that good sex boosts your fitness quotient as well – having about half an hour of active sex burns out 45 calories. And there is another plus of having frequent sex – it is that your partner also reaps the benefits, making sex a two – for – the – price – of – one – activity.

One well – known scientist considered that the joys and pleasures, people receive from lovemaking, provide us with an “intimacy inoculation”, which helps us to be protected against diseases. In addition, the science of psychoneuroimmunology shows that when people experience mutually carring sexual intimacy, such hormones as neuropeptides and cortisol pour through their bodies and these hormones help to promote health and healing. So, how out sexual energy should stay alive? The only key to achieve this is to care: you should be thinking about it constantly, you should keep working at it. You should never have sex only with the aim to conceive – you are to have sex in order to receive fun – the baby should be considered a pleasant side – effect. Numerous investigations prove that passionate, exciting love helps people to be “hit” out of the blue, however, it will only remain and repeat itself in case if it is continually nurtured and treated as an honoured guest. None of us is ever to forget that the most important sexual organ or a person is not the clitoris or the penis – it is the brain. Sexuality should be better considered as an integral part of life, as a gift, which is to be honoured, kept and enjoyed. Thus, the more a person gets to know about this energy, the more of it he or she begins to have and the more the person practices it, the  better he or she will get at it.

The Best Herbs for Fertility

Infertility is, of no doubt, considered to be one of the most widespread disorders in males as well as in females or reproductive age. In accordance to the statistics, it affects as many as 1 in 4 couples. There are a lot of issues, which can become the reason of infertility, like underlying health conditions, […]
